Falcade Geological Garden
Falcade | Agordino Dolomites
The Falcade Geological Garden, or Falcade Alpine Garden, is a small yet interesting educational, naturalistic, and scenic trail located in the center of the village of Falcade, just a few steps from the Town Hall.

The Falcade Alpine Garden was created starting in 2005 with the intention of introducing visitors to the Heart of the Dolomites, in a practical and synoptic way, to the geological, floristic, and landscape characteristics of the Dolomitic alpine environment, with special attention to the peculiarities of the Val Biois.
The representation conveyed by the installation is exemplary yet very effective: the placement within the Falcade Geological Garden of several porphyry boulders represents the famous Athesian porphyry platform, the volcanic-origin basement spanning more than 2,000 square kilometers that crosses the Dolomites from Bolzano to the Conca Agordina and characterizes the Dolomitic landscape with hues deeply different from those of dolomite rock. In addition to porphyry, other formations endemic to the Val Biois are present in the Falcade Alpine Garden; thus, one finds the numerous dolomite formations so clearly visible and illustrated to visitors along the wonderful Falcade Geological Trail (to which we dedicated an article a short time ago – click here to learn more).
Beyond the strictly geological aspect of the Falcade Alpine Garden, the installation highlights some of the most representative plant species of Val Biois and the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Dolomites. It features specimens of Swiss stone pine, dwarf mountain pine, larch, silver fir, beech, and many others.
The Falcade Geological Garden is always open to the public free of charge, all year round. For convenient enjoyment, a pleasant wooden walkway has been built, allowing visitors to walk through the installation without trampling the grass and other floral species present. A small pond completes this interesting cross-section of the Val Biois. Just a few steps from the garden, numerous parking spaces (both free and paid) are available, along with various restaurants and hotels, ensuring convenient support and entertainment options for all guests in the Heart of the Dolomites.
The Falcade Alpine Garden also hosts small art and photography exhibitions during periods of highest tourist influx, usually on the occasion of the major events in the Falcade calendar (click here to learn more).
