Alpi Feltrine (Dolomites)
Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage
The Feltrino Alps (Alpi Feltrine) are a mountain group within the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Dolomites, located on the border between the Agordino and Feltrino areas in the Province of Belluno, and Primiero in Trentino (Autonomous Province of Trento).

Regarding the International Alpine Classification SOIUSA, the Feltrine Alps constitute a distinct Supergroup comprising the Cimonega Group, the Pizzocco Group, and the Vette Feltrine. As for the classification drawn up by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, the Feltrine Alps fall within the 3rd of the 9 official systems protected and recognized by UNESCO, namely the Pale di San Martino – San Lucano – Vette Feltrine – Belluno Dolomites System.

Wild and relatively little-known mountains compared to the nearby Pale di San Martino, the Feltrine Alps are an often unjustly underestimated group, yet capable of providing great emotions and hiking satisfaction. The highest peak of the Feltrine Alps is Sass de Mura with its 2547 meters of altitude; these are therefore relatively low mountains but no less interesting than other Dolomitic groups.

The Feltrine Alps range also consists of other interesting peaks, such as Piz di Sagron (2486 meters), Monte Pavione (2334 meters), and Pizzocco (2187 meters), among other summits. As for the Agordino area, the Feltrine Alps geographically affect this portion of Dolomite territory with their slopes exposed to the Val del Mis, and therefore mainly with the Cimonega Group, which is institutionally divided between Primiero and Valbelluna.

Vette Feltrine
The Vette Feltrine mountain range is one of the three groups of the Feltrine Alps Supergroup, within the Dolomites Section (Eastern Alps).
Institutionally located on the border between Feltrino and Primiero, and therefore between the Provinces of Belluno and Trento, and between the Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige Regions, the Vette Feltrine are a relatively low mountain group, but no less interesting from a hiking perspective. The highest peak of the Vette Feltrine is Monte Pavione with its 2334 meters of altitude.

The long mountain range culminating in the spectacular pyramidal shape of Monte Pavione is constituted by the Vette Feltrine, which divide our territory from the neighboring Feltrino area. They mark the natural border between two regions, Trentino and Veneto, and the two provinces of Trento and Belluno. From west to east, Vallazza, Pavione, Col di Luna, Cima Dodici, Pietena, Ramezza exceed two thousand meters in height and form the natural barrier of Val Noana, dominating unchallenged and hermetically closing off the Primiero Valley to the south, were it not for the narrow Schener gorge carved over millennia by the Cismon stream.

The highest peak is the pyramid of Pavione with 2335 meters, while the lowest is Vallazza, with 2167 meters. On the Veneto side, Pavione loses its particular conformation, becoming a high-altitude grazing area known as Busa delle Vette, in the Municipality of Sovramonte.

The Vette, like the Pale di San Martino, are protected by a park, the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, established in 1993, and are included in the Vette Feltrine Nature Reserve. The approach from Primiero follows two main routes: from Vederne up to Pavione – on clear days you can admire Venice and its lagoon – or from Val Noana up to Rifugio Boz, a pleasant excursion suitable even for less experienced hikers on a comfortable zigzagging path. The Vette Feltrine also constitute the hub of the terminal part of the Alta Via n. 2 delle Leggende, which connects Feltre to Bressanone, two historic cities and important episcopal seats in past centuries, virtually uniting Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige by crossing the most beautiful Dolomite valleys.
