Snowshoeing in the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site

Snowshoes (in Südtirol called “ciaspole”; in Agordino “caspe” or “ciaspe” according to the different valleys) are an item which is deeply rooted in the past of the valleys of the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and which nowadays is becoming more and more popular among the guests of the Dolomites since they are an excellent alternative for people who don’t love or can’t skiing. Snowshoes were once made of simple materials (like wood, leather and hemp ropes), but today they are the result of continuous research and innovation; they allows hikers to walk easily on the surface of the fresh snow that covers in winter the slopes and peaks of the Dolomites.

In addition to a wide choice of snowshoe itineraries that can be undertaken autonomously or with a professional Mountain Guide, the Agordino hoteliers and tourist associations organize often events dedicated to snowshoeing (the most famous of which are definitely the Casparetha in Canale d’Agordo and Caspinvalle in Taibon Agordino) and suggestive snowshoe paths dedicated to this amusing winter activities (like the “La Volpe ti guarda” in Malga Ciapela at the foot of the Marmolada).

In the High Agordino, during the winter season there are plenty of proposals dedicated to snowshoeing, like amazing guided snowshoes excursions in the most charming places of the area, often combined with fascinating torchlight parades and a good cup of hot mulled wine.
